A company family day is the hardest event to get right, because the guest list runs from three-year-olds to grandparents and they all have to have something to do at the same time.
Book for three age bands, not one
The trap is booking for the median guest. Nobody is the median guest. Aim for something specifically for each band and accept that each will be ignored by the other two.
- Under 6 — a small inflatable and a game where everyone wins
- 6 to 12 — an obstacle course, carnival booths with prizes
- Adults — a team game with an actual competition attached
Spread the food out
Two carts at opposite ends of the site beat one counter in the middle. It halves the queue and, more usefully, it pulls people across the space instead of letting them cluster at the entrance.
Have the wet-weather conversation early
Decide in advance what happens if it rains, and write it down. Which items move under cover, which are cancelled, and who makes the call and when. Doing this two weeks out takes ten minutes. Doing it at 8am on the day is miserable.
